The Consolidation of U.S. Media
Release Date: May 1, 2024
In this episode, we discuss the consolidation of the U.S. media down to six parent companies and the allegation that the U.S. passed a law which allows it to propagandize the American people. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 loosened regulations on how many media companies a parent company can own. This made it profitable to consolidate, but was disastrous for local programming. This consolidation provided the agencies with a much simpler path to controlling media in the U.S. We also discuss the Smith-Mundt Modernization Act and what that means for government dissemination of propaganda to Americans.
