On October 14, 2020, the New York Post published a story named “Smoking-gun email reveals how Hunter Biden introduced Ukrainian businessman to VP dad.” The information used for the story was discovered on a laptop alleged to be Hunter Biden's. A laptop was dropped off at a Delaware computer store for repairs by a man named Hunter. It was never picked up. The owner of the store, John Paul Isaac, said that the laptop had a sticker on it reading "Beau Biden" which is how he came to the conclusion that the laptop was Hunter Biden's.1
On October 15, 2020, Twitter then censored the New York Post story claiming that it didn't want to incentivize hacking by allowing its platform to be used as distribution for possibly “illegally obtained materials”2 though the laptop was hacked and per the agreement at the computer store any item left for a certain period of time without being picked up is considered abandoned.
On October 16, 2020, Facebook then aided in the censorship by placing a fact check on it and “reducing its distribution.”3
On March 17, 2022, the New York Times admitted the authenticity of Hunter Biden's laptop.4
