On January 28, 2022, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that the Pennsylvania no-excuse absentee voting law used in the 2020 election was unconstitutional.1 That law, called Act 77, was enacted in October of 2019. That law was passed with bipartisan support. The same Republicans who voted for the law then sued Pennsylvania saying that it was unconstitutional. The Pennsylvania court then voted 3 Republican to 2 Democrat to make the law unconstitutional. During the 2022 election the mail-in ballot laws still remained in effect.
