AUMF vs. Declaration of War - Not What You Think

In conservative circles, there is a fairly common narrative that, since World War 2, the U.S. has used Authorization's for the Use of Military Force instead of formal declarations of war in order to avoid asking Congress for said declarations of war. This episode was researched with the intent of proving that point, but instead disproved the premise. While AUMF's are not at all what you are told that they are, they were then abused in 2001 and 2002 with catastrophic consequences for the Middle East.
